My Child Has a Counselor
All students at IPS receive the benefits of a school counseling and guidance program, which is an integral part of the total educational experience. Each child has access to services that are developmental in nature, preventive in design and comprehensive in scope. These services are provided so that every student may be supported and challenged to be the best he/she can be.
A major goal of the elementary counseling program is the prevention of obstacles that may interfere with learning. I am available to help all children with the normal yet unique occurrences that arise at some time in their growing years. Having a friend upset, feeling left out, worrying about a test are genuine worries to our students and it often helps just to talk to someone.
When Should I Call My Counselor?
If there is something that might hinder your child from making best use of his/her ability, please call. Some concerns could be an upcoming hospital stay, changes in the family dynamics, or expressing anger in a more appropriate way. There is nothing that is too small to discuss. When school and homework together, we prevent concerns from becoming problems.
Connecting With Students
A fundamental and strong component of the elementary guidance program is scheduled guidance lessons. Small group activities are provided for a specific group of children sharing a common goal. In addition, individual counseling provides a private form of communication for a child, which can be parent/teacher/child or counselor, initiated.
Write on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.
